Hathor

Guided by the goddess of joy and music

The goddess of joy and music is your guide. Her name is Hathor. In ancient Egypt, she was the goddess of love, beauty, music and dance. She is often shown holding a rattle called a sistrum, and her face decorated mirrors, including ones whose handles were shaped like her head. To the Egyptians, beauty and joy belonged together.

Beauty begins with joy. Take your time.

Your ritual, step by step

  1. Choose your song

    3 min

Put on a song that makes you feel good: something joyful, light and soulful. Open a window, drink a glass of water, and stretch if your body asks for it. Hathor was the goddess of music and dance, so let your shoulders move.

  2. Refresh

    2 min

Splash lukewarm water on your face, or mist it with rose water. Notice the temperature on your skin. Pat dry and leave it slightly damp.

  3. Hydrate

    5 min

Press 2 to 3 drops into damp skin with slow, upward strokes. Hyaluronic acid hydrates, and Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, a stable form of vitamin C, brings radiance. Natural sandalwood oil is in the formula, so take a breath and notice the scent. Move slower than feels natural, because your mind will run ahead to the next task. Let it, then gently bring your attention back to the texture on your skin.

  4. Seal and massage

    8 min

Warm Skin Silk between your palms and press it in slowly, from your neck up to your forehead. Then massage your face with slow, upward strokes, using your fingertips or a gua sha if you have one. Ceramides, squalane and prickly pear seed oil seal in the hydration, and the texture is soft and cushioned. Heading out? Finish with a broad-spectrum SPF.

  5. Her moment: joy

    12 min

Stay with your song and dance, sway or stretch for the length of one track. Then sit in front of the mirror, look at your face as you would greet an old friend, and smile. Name three things you enjoy about this morning. If you want, apply a little makeup just for fun. If it feels like another task, skip it.

Make it yours

Ask

Ask your mother, your grandmother or an older woman you trust: what song or music made you feel most like yourself when you were young? Ask her to play it for you, or sing it.
